Jury Nullification Paper Essay In this paper I am going to explain whether ethnicity influences courtroom proceedings and judicial practices, and give some examples of ethnicity-based jury nullification, a sanctioned doctrine of trial proceedings wherein members of a jury disregard either the evidence presented of the instructions of the judge in order to reach a verdict based upon their own consciences. It espouses the concept that jurors should be the judges of both law and fact. Ethnicity in court is an important factor depending were your venue of court is located, and the jurors selected to the court. If in a court room there are jurors that are all white and are jurors for a case involving a white man that killed a African American man, may cause the jurors to listen to the white man case rather than the African American individual. In some cases if the white man story is little probable to happen the jurors will then have to take more time and listen closer to both of the stories. Jurors are told when in court that they have to judge by the facts and not by preferences in ethnic groups or color of skin, some do listen some do not take any facts they just prefer to select the person who is less guilty or if they see a similarities in themselves with an offender. One example of a preferred jury was a case that took place on the night of February 26, 2012, in Stanford, Florida, George Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon Martin, a 17 year old African American high school student. George Zimmerman, a 28 year old Hispanic, was the neighborhood watch coordinator for the gated community where martin was temporarily staying and where the shooting took place. Martin and Zimmerman where in a confrontation while martin was walking thru the gated community while on the ground Zimmerman shot Martin killing him. When officers arrived on scene they took Zimmerman into custody and attended his injuries, then questioned for five hours. Under the state law of Florida it is legal to defend yourself while being under attack and you are able to use lethal force. Zimmerman stated that martin was reaching toward Zimmerman’s gun but no evidence was found. The jury decided that Zimmerman was not guilty, there was controversy in this case because martin was a young black kid who dressed different and was judged by that. The jury I believe looked at Martin as a bigger threat than Zimmerman. In this case a young black male was judged incorrectly by people who saw him as kid that was not going on the correct path, and on the other side they see a person who was keeping a watch on his community and keep them safe. Some people just see a Hispanic male getting away with murder and a African American kid who was killed harshly. For this case 5 of the 6 jurors were considered white and 1 mixed race, in this county were the case took place in Florida only 10 percent of the population are African American. Even though when selecting a jury there is people who make sure there are no bias selection of jurors, sometimes jurors when in court change their minds because they relate to the case or because some similar situations have happen to that juror or a close relative. When jurors relate to cases it starts to become a bias situation, for example if a case of a women that was beaten by a husband because of infidelity, some jurors if women will take the women side and will maybe go against the husband. Otherwise if the jurors are mostly men the men will tend to reduce sentence or even find a reason to liberate the husband accused of beating his wife due to infidelity. When facing a court case such as the famous case of Rodney King the jurors gave a harsh punishment to the police officers not because they were bias, but because the footage of the people who are there to serve and protect were acting like animals and very unprofessional. In this situation the jury were mainly concerned that these officers that were in duty to serve and protect the community can act so savagely, in this case there was a clear bias situation the jurors were not looking at the officers as heroes because they took down a man that was drugged up, the jurors saw the police beating  a man that was defense less and without any help. There will always be all sorts of bias and sometimes racism inside of the court room, jurors are chosen the best as possible but sometimes it just is not enough to sentence a case correctly. Jurors have the responsibility to give the case to the innocent person and to help the judge make the correct decision, but sometimes jurors make mistakes and are guided by their emotions and not the facts, when that happens the case becomes a bias case and usually in favor of the person the jurors think is innocent. In my opinion jurors should be taught and learn on how to use the facts to see all the details of the case, jurors should also be taught different types of classes on looking at all the evidence in favor and not in favor, the jurors should also take in mind that the person being sentenced also have families and deserve a fair opportunity on their criminal case. The diversity on the juror stand should be always permitted I believe there should not be more Whites or Blacks or Hispanic jurors there should be a fair amount of jurors for all ethnicities this will bring a balance and a fair judgment of all the cases in court. This will bring more fairness and belief to the court system and will help the judges job easier and trust the people of the juror stand. To conclude, jurors should be a very great help for criminal cases but they always have to judge with intelligence and with fairness.

Structure and Style in the Greater Romantic Lyric In his article "Structure and Style in the Greater Romantic Lyric," M. H. Abrams works to define what constitutes the greater Romantic lyric by turning to the philosophic undertones pervading the lyrical writings of William Wordsworth and more so of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Abrams's first task is to define what is meant by the term "greater Romantic lyric," a form which the critic states in no unbiased way "includes some of the greatest Romantic achievements in any form" (201). This longer Romantic poetic form is typified by "a determinate speaker in a particularized, and usually a localized, outdoor setting" who carries on "a sustained colloquy, sometimes with himself or with the outer scene" (201). The structure of the greater Romantic lyric is as follows: the poem begins with the poet describing the immediate natural surroundings, which aspect triggers "memory, thought, anticipation, and feeling" and leads to a meditation whereby the observer "achieves an insight, faces up to a tr agic loss, comes to a moral decision, or resolves an emotional problem" (201). This cycle of completion is often marked by the poem returning back upon itself, a culmination back to the beginning. The key ingredient in this structure is that it is centered on the role of the human, for even though Romantic poetry is abundantly rich with descriptions of the natural world, Romantics are "humanists above all," describing the outer physical world only as it relates to man's self-reflective condition (202). This accounts for Wordsworth's fear that an all-consuming observation of the material world would "tyrannize over the mind and imagination" (202). But to fully explicate his definition of the greater Romantic lyric, Abrams turns not to Wordsworth but to Coleridge as the main focal point, for Coleridge is its chief author and innovator, having brought forth the Romantic lyric in "The Eolian Harp" in 1796, a full two years before Wordsworth's "Tintern Abbey" (204). That Coleridge gives the appellation "conversation poems" to his own lyric poems (which also include "The Nightingale" and "This Lime-tree Bower") reflects for us the Romantics' focus on the primacy of the human dimension in the natural world. They are "conversational" in the sense that the poems involve a "dramatic mode of address to an unanswering listener" (206). These poems, then, follow the aforementioned formula of the speaker viewing a natural scene, reflecting meditatively on the scene and how it relates to the self, and reaching "the free movement of thought from the present scene to recollection in tranquility, to prayer-like prediction, and back to the scene" (206).

What is Critical Thinking?

Critical thinking is the skill to apply reasoning and logic to fresh or unused ideas, views, and conditions. Thinking critically includes seeing stuffs in an open-minded manner and observing an idea or concept from as many approaches as likely. This essential skill lets people stare past their individual interpretations of the world and to improve and realize the views of others. It is frequently used in discussions, to procedure additional cogent and well-rounded arguments, and in science. The skill to think critically is essential, as it generates new opportunities in problem solving.Being â€Å"open-minded† is a huge portion of critical thinking, permitting an individual to not simply search for out all likely answers to a problem, but to as well accept an response that is diverse from what was initially expected. Open-minded thinking needs that a individual does not take responsibility that his or her method of approaching a circumstances is always best, or even right. Cri tical thinking is well-defined as reasonable, reflective, responsible, and skillful thinking that is fixated on determining what to have confidence in or do.Critical thinking is analytical thinking. This sort of thinking takes complications away from each other fundamentally and down to their origins, in order to solve the problems. Critical thinking is not a matter of gathering information. An individual with a respectable memory and who recognizes a lot of facts is not automatically good at critical thinking. A critical thinker is capable to deduce concerns from what he identifies, and he recognizes how to create the use of information to answer problems, and to search for related sources of information to advise him.How is your response different from the one you wrote in Week One? The differences from what I wrote in week one till now is that in week one I was just looking up there information and just cite everything, but now I have a good understanding about what critical thin king is and how to be a critical thinker. In week one I did not know how to think critical but now everything I do I make sure I’m using critical thinking as an everyday route.

I Am A Long Time Fan Of Diana Krall - 1684 Words

I’m a long-time fan of Diana Krall; I began listening to her when her Look of Love album came out in 2001. I own most of her albums as well as Live in Paris – DVD and Live in Rio – BluRay. So, you can imagine my excitement when I heard she was coming out with a new album in 2015. Then I found out what was going to be on it. Now I was excitedly concerned. She’s known for singing the Great American Songbook and jazz in general. Wallflower sounded like it was going to be the Great American Soft-Rock (Pop) album. Some of these songs were sung by The Carpenters. Not to disparage The Carpenters, but I have heard the songs in more than one elevator and more than once while I’m waiting on the phone. I was more than a little concerned that this was†¦show more content†¦I’m not a fan of raspy voices - earthy yes, but not raspy. Mr. Adams is near the top of the hill in terms of the raspy quality of his voice, matched only by my least favorite a rtist on the planet, Rod Stewart. When Sting collaborated with Messrs. Stewart and Adams on â€Å"All for Love† for the movie The Three Musketeers, that, for my preference, was the epitome of poor songs (even though I quite like Sting). In many ways, David Foster’s production of the album reflects his professionalism and adept touch. Typically a genius at choosing tracks and their order, understanding the album as a whole and ensuring stellar orchestral band support, there are times when it seems out of place and over-produced on this album. In particular, the lush strings that begin the somewhat obscure Bob Dylan song, â€Å"Wallflower,† don’t seem to quite mesh with its folksy underpinnings. But then again, this is an atypical folk song. It’s more like a country love song. I would also say, that any Bob Dylan song sung by anyone other than Bob Dylan is a win. (Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen have to be two of the best songwriters this country has produced; they also have to be two of the worst singers I’ve ever heard. However, if you listen to the Bootleg Series Volumes 1-3, his singing is reasonably good on â€Å"Wallflower.†) I digress; despite the occasional mismatch, Mr. F oster does a fabulous job producing a clear, chromatic, cohesive, consonant sound for this album.
